Testing

Testing

Firstly, our finished products are never tested on animals. The last time any of our ingredients that we use were tested on animals was in 1992. To put this into context it may be useful to briefly look at the legislation surrounding animal testing. The 7th amendment of the EC Cosmetics Directive (1976) has banned the testing of finished cosmetic products on animals since 11 September 2004. The same amendment banned testing of ingredients or combination of ingredients on animals since 11 March 2009.

All our products go through months of rigorous laboratory-based stability and preservative testing. This ensures that they won't separate and or degrade within a specified time frame. This is why our products are good for 6 months once opened.

Next, all our products are dermatologically tested in Germany on tape stripped skin. This is conducted in accordance with the guidelines by COLIPA (The European Cosmetics Association). For each product, 50 test subjects had the first few layers of skin removed from a small area on their back and the product was applied. After a set period of time, participating subjects were checked for any inflammation or adverse reaction. For each product, the 50 test subjects presented a range of healthy, eczema, allergy and sensitive skin conditions and no subject showed any reaction to any product tested.

Test subjects were clearly informed, verbally and in writing, regarding the nature of the testing, the timetable, constraints and possible risks. They gave their informed consent before participating in the study. Participants could withdraw from the study at any time without giving a reason. During the test period, subjects refrained from using other substances on the test area.

Water was used as a negative control whilst sulphuric acid at a 1% concentration was used as the positive control.

Within the scope of the dermatological testing, our products have been classified as 'harmless' with regards to the possibility of skin irritation - even on very sensitive skin.

Obviously, sensitive skin and allergies vary dramatically so we would suggest that you patch test our products for 24 hours prior to normal application.
